A new breed of warship: HMS Daring

BAE have been touting the new class of Destroyer for the Royal Navy as the best thing since white bread. We shall see... the last I heard was that H.M.S. Daring was preparing to be launched into the Clyde in front of 11,000 spectators including 1,500 local kiddly-winks. Daring is the first of six (possibly eight) new Type 45 Anti-Air Warfare Destroyers being built by BAE systems for the Royal Navy. They are set to enter service in 2009 and the plan is to make them "the backbone of the Royal Naval Fleet" being amongst the most advanced in Naval technology in the world. The whole deal has given thousands of jobs to workers in both Glasgow and Fife for the foreseable future.

Lib Dem supporters have no other alternative

By October 2005 it was clear that watershed in British politics had arrived. The Liberal Democrats, for all their talk of “Real Alternative” and support gained due to the
war showed their ineffectuality at their September conference. Labour quickly followed this up with a bullish Conference overshadowed by the harsh treatment of an 84 year old man who shouted “balderdash”.

The Conservative conference was the centre of greatest media coverage, hoping to see the emergence of a new leader of the Party. The materialization of David Cameron and a two month process of his election as Party leader has greatly improved the image of our Party.

But what of the “Real alternative”? Subsequently their leaders in both the House of Commons and House of Lords have resigned through alcohol problems. Two runners in their leadership election have been “outed” and are therefore seen as dishonest, one of them resigning and pulling out of the leadership election.

But most of all the emergence of a seemingly reformed Conservative Party at the top of the polls asks many questions of traditional Lib Dem supporters and members. The first main question supporters will ask themselves is ‘Will my support for such a dwindling and dishonest Party actually make an effect on the next election?’

The times they are a changin'

By David Herdson, Conservative Candidate for Windhill and Wrose in the upcoming local elections.

In 1998, Tony Blair was Prime Minister, there was a new, young Conservative leader, Manchester United were heading towards second place in the Premier League behind London’s leading club, and I was standing for election to Bradford Council in the ward covering Windhill and Wrose.

A lot can change in eight years. And one of the things that has changed the most is the public hostility to the Conservative Party. In 1998, Tony Blair was enjoying his extended honeymoon period and when the Conservatives were seen as irrelevant, yesterday’s men, out of touch with New Labour‘s bright new dawn. Claiming that it wasn‘t anything new and wasn‘t going anywhere didn‘t help either. As it turns out, a lot of our predictions about New Labour were remarkably accurate: the reversion to tax-and-spend, the overriding focus on spin leading to initiative overload and no clear direction, the entrenched kitchen cabinet undermining democracy - but the public was in no mood for killjoy predictions, no matter how accurate.

The finishing line... at last

http://www.achievement.org/achievers/ban0/photos/ban0-013a.gif

I must apologise to all of you who have been visiting makesocialismhistory over the past 2 or 3 days. I haven't had time to upload anything really interesting onto the site due to my crap organisation resulting in me having to write three essays for my degree over the past 48 hours. I am now utterly exhausted and require feeding, sleep and a few pints of Taylors Landlord to set me right again.

Thankfully it has all now been dealt with and handed in, and as University does not go back until the 31st January there will be some good stuff coming up on MakeSocialismHistory. That is a promise.

I hope that what I have put up yesterday was useful to some people at least and that perhaps some of you have indeed decided to join the Conservative party. My opinion about Conservative Future has always been that it should be a social group first and a poltical organisation second, that is how I try and run our CF organisation anyway.

So for now I say have a good Friday night and I look forward to bringing you new articles on all sorts of different issues in the coming days.

Conservative Future

Conservative future

Join Conservative Future today and help lead the party back into Government. CF is not all about politics, at least it certainly isn't for me, I have met some of the best friends I have ever had through Conservative future. I think that the name is perfect for who we are, because we're not a group of students only interested in politcs and arguing why Blair is an idiot and an irresponsible fool, we are a group of young people who want to create a society in which we would be happy raising our children, and when we're not talking politics we're enjoying life and living it as it is meant to be lived - thoroughly and absolutely. That doesn't mean going out and getting tanked up every weekend, rather going out and having great nights out with wonderful people who feel the same way about the world and what they want to give to it and get back from it as you do.

If you're interested in joining please do read through the site and see what the central party has to offer, but do more than that. Go to your local association and ask them what they offer, each association is unique and offers something different. On that same ethos, if you don't like what you see, join the party and make suggestions, get involved, help run the local effort and not only get brilliant experience in politics, organisation and networking but enjoy yourself at the same time. There isn't any point in doing something unless you are going to enjoy yourself and that is what CF should be about for everyone who joins, giving you the opportunty to get involved and really make a difference to the countries future and your future, while having a great time with great people along the way.

The mystery which surrounds the one they call Guido Fawkes

The image “http://www.latinoreview.com/films_2005/wb/vendetta/images2/vfv1.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Is this the real Guido Fawkes?

The similarity is uncanny and I suspect with Guido's taste for blowing things of governmental importance and sentiment up it proves the case without a doubt. Perhaps he is here to save us from the Socialist Police State which Blair is attempting to erect before being pushed out the back door of No.10 and shot by Brown's inept henchman Ed Balls.
