Labour: Shooting itself in both feet with a double barreled shotgun.

The so called "scandal" of undeclared loans made to political parties at the last General electon has gripped the media for well over a week now and it doesnt show much sign of letting up. Everytime something new comes out the press and guttermedia jump all over it. It's not that I don't care, i do. It's not that I don't think it's important, I do.

My problem with the massive media hype that has surrounded the entire affair, it's the typical "burn the buggers at the stake" mentality that Fleet street has adopted over the past few year. In all honesty I can't remember when it wasn;t lime this, but looking at the history books it certainly wasn't. There has generally been an Entente Cordiale between Politicians and the pressman, where has this gone? Why has it been thrown out?

Surely a big part of the answer to both these questions is that Government has come to use the media and press to promote itself in ways not previously seen. I'll grant you the media has always attacked bad legislation and incompetant governing. But before the New Labour experiment the media and pressmen were not integral to a parties desire for power.

The image “http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/1270000/images/_1274596_campbell_blair_car300.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

By jumping at the opportunity for massive backing within a majority of fleet street Mr. Blair has opened a can or worms that has the possibility of never being fully closed. I'm not saying that Govnerment should not be scrutinised but the lengths which certain parts of the media are going to, in order to score some sort of sick point is frankley out of order.

There are many more issues that the media should be looking at instead of splashing not only unproductive opinion that only damages the whole parliamentary system, but also the news the Govenrment want the papers to print. The Labour govenrment has been using the media to publicise it's power agenda since 1997 and all that is happening now is that the media don't want to play by No. 10's rules anymore. We therefore have what is akin to a mad dog prowling the streets of Westminster watching for the next bit story that will only actaully serve as a distraction to what is really important. I.e. the quite reprehensible legislation that labour is trying to put through Parliament at the moment as well as further E.U. integration making it more and more difficult for Britain to escape the grasps of the constitution and the disasterous Euro experiment.

The papers quite properly brought the parties to account over the loans loophole in the funding legislation, but it is time to move on. The issue that the media and press should concentrate on now is the legislative and re-form bill which if it goes through has the potential to take this country back to a pre-civil war situation where Parliament is sidelined as an inconvenience. This is surely the point of a free press...

2 - This goes a long way of summing up what I think of socialism -

“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”
~~~ Winston Churchill
There is also the point that Socialism does not ever work, never has and it most probably never will. Each time it has been tried the people of that particular state have severely suffered - Russia, China, Cuba, North Korea, East Germany, Hungary etc etc and now Britain is suffering because of Browns backwards socialist economics. (Comment this)
3 - You can already add Britain to that list, rather than wait for Gordon to ruin us.
In 1979, socialism brought the UK to it's knees. Bodies not being buried and founders of the IMF finding themselves in debt to and in need of loans from the IMF are good reasons to depise the system that causes these things: socialism. (Comment this)
